Hi there!
I'm Tom Heaton
👉 vote hereI am excited to announce my candidacy for the Bath Computer Science Society (BCSS) General Committee Member position.
I have been an active member of BCSS since my first year (now in third year!) at the university and have contributed to various initiatives. As the current Chair of BCSS, I have been involved in organising Bath Hack 2024 and Spring Ball 2024, collaborating with various sponsors and engaging with our new members, building on my previous experience organising Bath Hack and the Spring Ball in 2023 as well as my tenure as the Bath Video Game Society (BVGS) Chair in 2022/23.
In the upcoming academic year, I will be on placement in Bath, which means I won't be running for Chair. However, I am committed to staying involved with BCSS and offering my support and expertise as a general committee member. Additionally, I am keen on assisting individuals with organising their placements and providing insights into the process, expectations, and available opportunities to ensure a successful experience.
Moving forward, I aim to continue supporting the society by sharing my expertise and assisting in the planning and execution of events. While I won't be in the role of Chair, I remain committed to the values of inclusivity, skill-building, and community building that are central to BCSS. I believe that by working together, we can further enhance the BCSS experience for all members.
As a GitHub Campus Expert, I have developed skills and knowledge that I believe can benefit our society in many ways. With my passion for community building, skill-building, and inclusivity, I hope to continue making a positive impact on our society.
TL;DR
I am running again for BCSS committee in 2024/25, but not as Chair due to being on placement in Bath. Previous BCSS Chair in 2023/24 and BVGS Chair in 2022/23. Will support BCSS as a general committee member, focusing on sharing experience and improving the society. Currently involved in organising Bath Hack 2024 and Spring Ball 2024. Excited to contribute to BCSS's success in a new role.
